The Centre for the Mathematics of Planet Earth (CMPE) has the aim of coordinating and stimulating the research activities taking place at the UoR at the intersection between mathematics, theoretical physics, data science, meteorology, and climate dynamics,. This research area has gained special prominence since the international Mathematics of Planet Earth 2013 initiative. The CMPE aims to make Reading a world-leading research and educational node in this scientific area. Additionally, the Centre aims to use the outputs of its research activities to support the interdisciplinary work that the Walker Institute undertakes in areas addressing climate resilience e.g. climate risks, food security, and related areas.
