Alice Tordoff's story

May Martins

I am an Ancillary Technician working within the operations Cluster of Technical Services

and I began working here in September 2021 at the Russell Building. I previously worked at UPS for several years and I was looking for something to fit into my routine as a Mum.

Working part time at the university has given me the flexibility to fulfil my parental responsibility, manage my time and incorporate my hobbies. This allows me to engage, bond and be present during important developmental milestones of my child. I particularly like the flexibility of my working pattern during the school holidays, which allows me to begin slightly earlier or later.

As part of the operations team, we organise regular meet-ups where everyone can catch up as we all work in different buildings. I have had several opportunity to share my passion for baking with my colleagues who have commented on my Macaron baking skills, and I have also learn about food recipes from other cultures.

Even as a part time worker I have been able to network and build not only a professional network but also a community amongst my fellow team members. The university promotes a friendly working environment with Diversity and inclusion at its core and I feel perfectly at home within my role.
