Helen Dominick
Senior Technician - Teaching and Research
Responsibilities
I support a wide range of Teaching and Research activities within the School of Biological Sciences. My duties include maintaining the plant collections in five glasshouses adjacent to the Harborne Building and the Walled Garden which also houses the SBS apiary. I have been co -managing the apiary since completing a beekeeping course in 2014. All these facilities are also used in outreach activities.
I am a lab coordinator in Harborne Building, undertaking laboratory inductions, supply of consumables and management of waste. I also maintain the cultures of many live insects for teaching and research and collect and preserve other insects used for Entomology teaching.
Career history
I worked for a year as a clerical officer before taking a Degree in Environmental Biology at University College Swansea. I joined Reading University in 1989 and for many years worked in, and finally managed, the Experimental Grounds where plants are grown for Teaching and Research. I have been undertaking my current range of duties largely since the Experimental Grounds moved to SAPD management.
