Senior Technician

Responsibilities

As a Teaching and Research Technician in the Biology division I am responsible for the preparation of undergraduate and postgraduate practical classes as well as supporting the research activities of the Schools of Biological Sciences and Pharmacy. Working primarily in the Hopkins Building, I fulfil the Lab Coordinator role for the First Floor Research Labs in the building as well as the setting up of and demonstrating in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry and Laboratory Skills practical classes for both undergraduate and postgraduate students in the two teaching labs. I also help with Outreach activities run by the School of Biological Sciences.

I have recently completed my professional registration through the Science Council and am now a Registered Scientist (RSci) with the Royal Society of Biology.

I am also a part of the Staff/Student Postgraduate Research Committee acting as a representative of Technical Services for the Hopkins Building.

Career History

Graduating in 2014, I studied for a BSc in Biomedical Sciences here at the University of Reading before going on to study for a Master of Science by Research (MRes) in Biomedical Research (also here at Reading). Alongside studying for my Masters I worked in the Microbiology department of the Royal Berkshire Hospital part time and took up full time hours shortly after finishing my degree towards the end of 2015. I joined the University as a Teaching and Research Technician in September 2016.
