Background

As part of my master’s and PhD studies at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, I investigated some of the molecular mechanisms involved in stress responses and metabolism. Currently, I am exploring the effects of a potential treatment for atherosclerosis using in vitro methods. I am analysing the intracellular pathways implicated in the formation of the atherosclerotic lesion and the possibility of regression with cysteamine and cysteamine-related molecules. The effectiveness of these treatments is crucial for the management of cardiovascular disease, one of the main causes of death and disability worldwide.
