Patricia Yates bursary
This bursary has been created as a result of a bequest from the late Mrs Patricia Yates to the Graduate Centre for Medieval Studies.
What is the bursary?
The Patricia Yates Entrance Bursary of £4000 per annum is for prospective UK or International (EU or other) postgraduate students and will be put towards costs associated with study. The student(s) will receive the money as a cash bursary which will show on the student(s) record.
The Patricia Yates Commemorative Fund of £1000 per year supports current students at the Graduate Centre for Medieval Studies (UK or International) and will be put towards costs associated with study. The student(s) will receive the money as a cash bursary which will show on the student(s) record.
Who is eligible to apply?
The eligibility criteria for the Patricia Yates Entrance Bursary and for the Patricia Yates Commemorative Fund include:
- Academic merit
- Financial hardship.
How and when to apply?
Students should apply by completing the Application Form, paying attention to the personal statement. The personal statement should provide an account of your academic and non-academic achievements, extra-curricular activities, volunteering and any exceptional circumstances that may warrant a bursary (such as financial or circumstantial need).
Application deadlines for 2024/2025 is 18 November 2024
What supporting evidence should I submit?
Please check the 'Document Checklist' on the application form for details regarding what documents you should submit. Incomplete applications will be declined.
Please supply copies ONLY as no documents will be returned to you.
When will I receive my bursary payment?
Shortly after the application deadline the selection panel (composed of GCMS colleagues) will meet to review the applications. We are hoping to inform all students of the outcome within 4 weeks from the application deadline.
I have been unsuccessful; can I appeal my decision?
No, unfortunately the selection panel's decision is final and will not be revisited.
The University of Reading recognises the importance of bursaries and scholarships for our students and therefore works hard to ensure a transparent and fair selection process. All received applications are carefully considered by members of the selection panel.
Please note that we are unable to provide feedback on individual applications.
