Greenhouses
There are three teaching and research greenhouses associated with the School of Biological Sciences. About 250 different species are in cultivation in all three of our greenhouses.
Tropical Biodiversity Greenhouse
The Tropical Biodiversity greenhouse is run organically with no artificial pesticides used but active integrated pest management using predators. The tropical greenhouse is also one of the main attractions on our school visits.
Other Greenhouses
A second greenhouse is kept frost free and used to maintain temperate plants in growth through the winter to provide class teaching material. There is also a third greenhouse which is kept at a minimum of 8oC, again to grow teaching material, but also to house warm temperate species.
