The Justice and Security Bill

The Justice and Security Bill was introduced into the House of Lords on 28 May 2012.

The Bill's home page is here. There is a live RSS feed on the Bill here. And you can subscribe to email alerts on the Bill here.

The Government controversially bypassed a White Paper consultation before introducing the Bill.

Perhaps the most significant changes to the Government's proposals, as outlined in the Bill, have been the dropping of proposals for introducing closed material procedure into inquests and an apparent confining of the proposals for CMP to national security related cases.

A House of Lords Library Note on the Bill can be found here.

At the same time as introducing the Bill to Parliament, the Government published its response to the JCHR Report on the Justice and Security Green Paper as well as its Report on its own consultation on the Green Paper's proposals.

The Second Reading of the Bill took place on 19 June 2012.

The Constitutional Committee published its Report on the Bill on 13 June 2012. The Government published its Response on 10 July 2012.
