Background

Initially trained as an Agronomist in Chile, Jorge's early career focused on the technical aspects of agricultural production systems. His transition to a broader research perspective began with his Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics (2008-2009), where he delved into economic analysis related to agricultural policies and labour market dynamics. After his master’s degree, he was an Agricultural Economist at the Agency of Studies and Agricultural Policies at the Ministry of Agriculture of Chile (2009-2011) and an Economist and Head of the Department of Information Assurance at the Ministry of Social Development of Chile (2012-2017).

His PhD in Agricultural, Environment and Food Economics (2018-2022) at the University of Reading expanded his research scope further, integrating environmental and food economics into his studies. This multidisciplinary research included evaluating the economic impacts of technological innovations in agriculture, such as new technologies and sustainable diversification, and their broader socio-economic and environmental implications.

Jorge has published his emerging research in high-impact journals and has contributed as a reviewer to Applied Economics and the International Journal of Agriculture and Natural Resources, among others.
