Life as an undergraduate

You'll have the full-time student experience on our undergraduate courses, which means you can fully immerse yourself in campus life.

As well as learning intensively in our teaching sessions, you'll have access to the School's dedicated facilities, and the University Library for independent study. You'll be able to socialise at the University's cafes and bars, and enjoy the parkland surroundings of Whiteknights campus.

We’ll help you grow your aspirations, as well as the key relationships that will benefit you throughout your future career – not just with our academics but with industry professionals in our international network.

You'll be allocated an academic tutor who will help guide you throughout your time at the University, offering advice and assistance whenever necessary.

98% of our students said teaching staff are good at explaining things (National Student Survey 2024, 97.75% of responders from the School of Construction Management and Engineering).

Reading University Construction Society

The Reading University Construction Society (RUCS) is our social and cultural hub. It runs an exciting range of events where you’ll have opportunities to build professional relationships as well as friendships. 

Leading employers and professional institutions attend many of the Society’s events to give talks and meet students, allowing you to increase your employability and knowledge as well as empowering you to build a personal network of contacts.

A number of industry leaders are corporate members of RUCS, including Turner & Townsend, Malcolm Hollis, and Alinea.

You'll also be invited to the Society's regular social events, which bring together students from all years and staff in an informal setting.

Facilities and learning spaces

We offer excellent facilities that reflect our academic reputation, quality and ambition. You will be encouraged to explore, experiment with and learn from innovative technologies.

Watch as first-year students use laser scanners and infrared cameras to create 3D models of buildings. 

Chancellor's Building

The School of Construction Management and Engineering is based in the Chancellor's Building on Whiteknights campus. Built in 2017, the £8.4m facility contains teaching spaces, purpose-built laboratories and social breakout areas. 

The CAVE

The Cave Automatic Virtual Environment (CAVE) allows you to fully interact with 3D digitised environments.

Virtual Learning Environment

You'll have access to virtual classrooms and lecture notes from wherever you're studying. You can submit coursework electronically and take advantage of many other aspects of the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) to enhance your learning.
 

Resource room

Our resource room has study spaces for individual and group work as well as subject-specific learning resources. 

Life on campus

Our main Whiteknights campus is set on 130 hectares of beautiful parkland, only a short walk or bus ride away from our London Road campus. The campus is a thriving community that includes a Students' Union, Library and places to eat.

Life in Reading

Step off campus and you'll find yourself in a bustling town centre offering a variety of shops, restaurants and activities. We're also well-connected – you can reach London Paddington within half an hour by train.
