Jane is Manager of the FoodBioSystems Doctoral Training Partnership, a UKRI funded six-partner training programme for PhD students in the agri-food and biological sciences. Responsibilities include:
- Managing activities of stakeholders across different departments at partner universities to deliver a positive experience of student recruitment, admissions, enrolment and post-registration support.
- Authoring and updating DTP policies; handbooks, recruitment guidance documents.
- Supporting DTP management, training and selection committees.
- Conducting annual reviews of the recruitment process, recommending policy and process modifications to DTP management and selection committees.
- Developing recruitment practices to eliminate bias and to standardise processes ensuring equity of access for all applicants.
- Ensuring DTP training and support is accessible to all doctoral researchers.
- Point of contact for supervisors and students with welfare concerns.
Background
Jane joined the FoodBioSystems DTP with previous management experience gained during roles in universities and the third sector. Previous roles include setting up and managing FoodWasteNet, a UKRI funded Network in Industrial Biotechnology and Bioenergy (2014-2019) and leading the membership activities team at the Society for General Microbiology (SGM, 2010-2013).Academic qualifications
- 2008 - 2010: Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Management Studies (Distinction), Henley Business School, University of Reading (distance learning course)
- 1990 - 1993: PhD in Applied Plant Pathology, University of Westminster
- 1986 -1990: BSc Hons Applied Biology (Upper Second class), Thames Polytechnic (now The University of Greenwich)
