Donations
Update on Donations to the Library
The University of Reading Library is currently pausing the acceptance of donations of printed books and other physical materials.
While we greatly appreciate the generosity of all donors, a combination of limited storage space, current staffing capacity within the Collections team, and an ongoing Collections Project means that we are unable to process donations at this time. Our focus is on ensuring that library resources continue to support the University's teaching, learning and research priorities.
We encourage anyone wishing to donate books to consider alternative organisations that can make good use of them, including:
- Anybook - A UK-based online marketplace for second-hand books. They accept books in a range of conditions.
- Oxfam Bookshops - helping raise funds for charitable work through the sale of donated books.
- Local community libraries, schools and charity bookshops.
Unwanted Books and Textbooks
Students and staff with unwanted books may wish to:
- Add books to the Recycle UoR Reading box on the ground floor of the Library to allow items to be reused.
- Donate them to charity bookshops such as Oxfam.
- Take part in local book swap initiatives and community sharing schemes.
- Recycle books responsibly where they are no longer suitable for reuse.
Significant or Special Collections Material
Offers of rare, unique or historically significant materials may still be considered on a case-by-case basis. Please contact the Museums and Collections team for advice before making any arrangements.
We appreciate your understanding as we continue to review and develop our collections to best meet the needs of the University community.
This temporary arrangement will be kept under review.
If you are considering making a monetary donation to the Library, please contact Sue Egleton (University Librarian)
