The Department of Meteorology at the University of Reading is part of the School of Mathematical, Physical and Computational Sciences.

Our diverse community of staff and students is united by a passion to explore how mathematical, physical and computational sciences can be used to better predict the weather and climate.

Supportive environment

You'll find a strong sense of community within the Department of Meteorology. Staff and students get to know one another thanks to our excellent staff-to-student ratio.

Our departmental coffee room, which sits at the heart of the Department, is a place where everyone can share their passion for tackling the challenges of the natural world in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

Student-led careers and networking day

Held in the Department, our networking day enables you to establish contacts within your chosen field and learn more about what it's like to work in different sectors of meteorology and climate science.

The types of organisations and companies that attend include instrumentation companies, private and government forecasters, catastrophe and insurance companies, and research organisations.

Expand your knowledge through our regular seminar series

During term time, we hold weekly departmental and lunchtime seminars featuring guest speakers from the meteorological and climate sectors, as well as speakers from within the Department.

Open to everyone, these seminars are a great way to learn more about a particular topic or issue. We update our list of seminars at the beginning of each term.

Departmental Seminars
Held every Monday at 12:00 during term time only.

Lunchtime Seminars
