Our Department of Meteorology, part of the School of Mathematical, Physical and Computational Sciences, brings together a diverse community of staff and students united by a passion to explore how mathematical, physical and computational sciences can be used to better predict the weather and climate.
Our community includes experts in weather, climate, atmospheric and space physics, oceanography, hydrology, renewable energy, and Earth observation.

We are the only dedicated meteorology department in the UK, and also host significant components of the National Centre for Atmospheric Science (NCAS) and the National Centre for Earth Observation (NCEO).
A new, state-of-the-art international headquarters for the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) is also to be built on our Whiteknights campus.

Our Department is a dynamic environment, where you can learn from and work with internationally recognised research and teaching staff – including five Fellows of the Royal Society and climate experts who contribute to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

Our departmental coffee room, which sits at the heart of the Department, is a place where everyone can share their passion for climate science in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
During term time, we hold weekly departmental and lunchtime seminars featuring guest speakers from the meteorological and climate sectors, as well as speakers from within the Department.
Open to everyone, these seminars are a great way to learn more about a particular topic or issue. We update our list of seminars at the beginning of each term.
