The University of Reading has a long-standing Memorandum of Understanding with the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS).

Our partnership extends through both teaching and research.

In teaching, we cooperate closely with RMAS in delivering the Army Higher Education Pathway, the initial phases of which are taught at Sandhurst before officers move on to the bespoke modules that we provide. RMAS staff also regularly contribute to the teaching of undergraduate modules in our Department, such as the War, Peace, and International Ethics module.

In research, we host six RMAS lecturers as visiting research fellows and also run an annual Reading-Sandhurst lecture.

Visiting research fellows

  • Stephen Deakin
  • Andrée-Anne Mélançon
  • Malte Riemann
  • Norma Rossi
  • Max Thompson
  • Edmund Yorke
Both the University of Reading and RMAS have long-standing and distinctive traditions of inquiry and education. We are already bringing these traditions together in the education of army officers, and look forward to explore further areas for collaboration in education and research, and learn from each other.
