The School of Philosophy, Politics and Economics (SPPE) aims to create an inclusive and supportive working environment for all staff and students.

We believe that diverse institutions are more successful, innovative, and fulfilling. Therefore, we are committed to making SPPE a place where everyone can reach their potential in a welcoming and supportive atmosphere. We conceive of diversity broadly, to encompass gender, race and ethnicity, sexual orientation, neurodiversity, and disability.

Athena Swan Silver Award

We're delighted to have been awarded an Athena Swan Silver Award in May 2026. The award recognises the progress we have made since receiving our Bronze Award in 2021, as well as our sustained commitment to identifying and addressing inequalities within the School.

The Silver Award marks an important milestone, but not the end of this work. Our new five-year Athena Swan Action Plan sets out the practical steps we'll take to build on our progress and embed equality, diversity and inclusion across the School’s activities and culture.
