Background

Dylan specialises in ethnographic and video-based studies of social interaction, communication and technology in complex organisational environments, including constructions sites, hospitals and the home.

His research at the University of Reading has investigated how social science perspectives, rooted in ethnographic research on construction sites and with construction workers themselves, can help to address some of the urgent concerns raised by the nature of the industry and the conditions of working in it. Dylan maintains a wider interest in quite diverse areas of cultural sociology, stemming from his background in sociology and visual culture.

Dylan has been an invited keynote speaker at international conferences, including ARCOM (The Association of Researchers in Construction Management) and the British Sociological Association (BSA), and has organised conferences and symposiums, including one recently with Danish colleagues at Reading Town Hall, funded by the Danish Working Environment research fund.
