Informality and Evolving Roles in Artificial Intelligence Adoption within Construction Firms
This research explores how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is being introduced and used within construction firms, focusing on how work practices and professional roles adapt during this process. Although AI is increasingly promoted as a tool for improving performance in construction, its adoption across the sector remains uneven and not well understood in practice. The study seeks to develop an understanding of how AI is experienced in everyday project settings within the UK construction industry, offering insight into the social and organisational conditions that shape digital adoption in construction.
Background
I hold a BA in Engineering Project Management and an MSc in Project Management (with Distinction) from the University of Reading, where I was awarded the CIOB Certificate of Excellence. I have several years of professional experience on large-scale residential and social-housing projects in roles including project coordination, planning, and quantity surveying. My MSc dissertation examined socio-organisational processes in NHS construction projects, focusing on how outcomes are shaped by coordination, communication, and stakeholder interaction. My research interests focus on the adoption of digital tools, including AI, in construction projects, and how work practices and professional roles adapt to technological change.Websites/blogs
