Entrench intransigence or emancipate enlightenment? Building after conflict. A Syrian tale
The project explores the role of cultural heritage buildings in civil conflicts and the relations amongst cultural heritage, religions, politics, and economy. The project is taking Syria as a case study and will be studying cultural heritage buildings as boundary objects and their meanings and roles before, during, and after the civil war in Syria in 2011. The main focus of research is to explore how cultural heritage buildings impact civil conflicts and consequently future reconciliations.
Background
I hold a BA in Architecture from Damascus University (Syria), and an MSc in Project Management from the University of Reading. I was awarded Distinction for both my BA graduation project and my MSc dissertation which studied the management of the rehabilitation process of damaged heritage building in Syria in the post 2011 war period. During my years of study in Syria, I participated in several projects with (Anbar office) which is the office responsible for the rehabilitation of residential properties in the old city of Damascus. During these projects, I participated in surveying and producing executive drawings to endangered properties within the old city of Damascus. This has led to me developing research interests in Cultural heritage, cultural heritage buildings, Architecture, and project management.
