Policies and procedures
We're committed to ensuring that everyone at the University of Reading is treated with dignity, respect and courtesy at all times and is given equality of opportunity in all activities. Our policies and procedures reflect this commitment.
We have a number of current policies, procedures and guidance related to diversity and inclusion.
- Equal Opportunities Policy
- Code of Good Practice (Valuing Ourselves and Others)
- Harassment and Bullying Policies and Procedures
- Family Leave Procedures and Guidance (including Maternity, Shared Parental and Adoption Leave)
- Trans and Gender Identity: Supporting information and Procedures for Staff/Students (In Review)
The University is firmly committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for everyone in our community; our values as an inclusive institution remain core to who we are. The Supreme Court Ruling (in April 2025) led us to withdraw our previous trans inclusion guidance, because it contained some elements that were not compatible with the judgment.
While we are working to redevelop the guidance, this web page includes details of resources to support staff and students.
- Equality Impact Assessment (EIA) guidance for large-scale projects
If you are unsure if you need to complete an Equality Impact Assessment or if you need help completing one, please contact the Diversity and Inclusion Team.
If you ever need advice on the University's equality policies please contact diversity@reading.ac.uk
The University has a strong commitment to employee health and wellbeing. Further information and support can be found on our Employee Wellbeing pages.
