The University allocates around 150 entry awards each year in PhD studentships and bursaries, so there are many ways to access PhD funding. A studentship is usually a package that provides full funding for tuition fees and living costs.

Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) SCENARIO Doctoral Training Partnerships
You can apply for doctoral training and studentships from the NERC SCENARIO Doctoral Training Partnerships. These include a wide range of opportunities for placements and training with external partners.

Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) South East Doctoral Training ARC (SEDarc) Doctoral Training Partnership
Applicants for topics in Geography and Environmental Studies are invited to apply for the PhD studentship opportunities offered through the ESRC South East Doctoral Training Arc (SEDarc) Doctoral Training Partnership. These studentships are 3.5 years in duration and cover tuition fees, an annual maintenance grant as well as additional funding for research training and support.
