IP and Commercialisation
The University of Reading is leading the way in translating its research findings into commercial opportunities. Employees of the University regularly produce intellectual property (IP) in the course of their research and other activities. Some of this IP has significant potential for commercial exploitation which can be of financial benefit to both the University, the employee and interested third parties such as business who are able to access this through a number of different pathways including licencing and collaboration.
The University of Reading welcomes the recommendations of the Independent Review of University Spin-out Companies, published in November 2023, and is actively working to integrate best practices into our spin-out processes. The review aims to improve the creation and growth of university spin-out companies and establish strong incentives for the UK to lead in commercializing university research, to which the University is fully committed. Further information on this can be seen on the University of Reading Spin-out Review recommendations page.
