Accelerate your research with KTP

Accelerate your Research Video

KTPs have been helping academics and businesses work together for more than 40 years, unlocking commercial potential by turning world-class research into cutting-edge innovation.

Funded by government grants awarded on a competitive basis, combined with significant investment by host businesses, KTPs represent a valuable source of research income.

KTPs can help your research team to expand and diversify its output – an average of three new research projects and two academic papers are created as a result of every KTP.

By enabling you to clearly demonstrate both the practical application and the economic impact of your research, a KTP can enhance the REF rating of your academic department.

Taking part in a KTP can help you raise your profile as an academic expert, including through access to substantial publicity support from the university and Innovate UK.

Participation in a KTP can improve the scope and quality of your teaching, by providing you with new teaching material and potential opportunities for industry-based student projects.

The University of Reading is one of the UK's leading KTP centres, with a success rate of 98% in the competitive KTP application process (compared to a national average of 88%), and a strong track record in establishing successful partnerships across all business sectors.

Each KTP project is managed by a talented graduate Associate supported by a specialist Knowledge Transfer Adviser, requiring an academic investment of just 0.5 days per week.

As an academic partner you will receive outstanding administrative, technical, and legal support through Reading’s Knowledge Transfer Centre, including access to an in-house Intellectual Property Manager to help you realise the commercial potential of your research.
