The second-most widely spoken language in the world with approximately 400 million native speakers, Spanish has official status in 21 countries: Andorra, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Equatorial Guinea, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Spain, Uruguay, Venezuela. Spanish is also an official language of Puerto Rico.

Students of the Languages for All Spanish programme may get the chance for some extra-curricular activities, such as conversation clubs. There are Study Abroad opportunities in Spain and you could also join a society and learn more about Spanish-speaking cultures.

This post-beginner module will increase your ability to communicate in Spanish by consolidating and building on your existing knowledge of language necessary for everyday situations.

Spanish Stage 3

In this intermediate module, you’ll explore and produce written and oral texts from a range of genres and registers.

You’ll gain regular practice in free and guided writing in Spanish, and in presenting and discussing in the foreign language. You’ll also analyse grammatical and syntactical features in Spanish.

This advanced module develops your Spanish through guided and free writing, structured grammar practice, and regular opportunities to explore contemporary issues using authentic Spanish materials.

You’ll build confidence and fluency by working across a range of genres and registers in both spoken and written Spanish.

Spanish Stage 5

This advanced module deepens your Spanish through more complex writing tasks, detailed grammatical and syntactical analysis, and extended engagement with authentic texts in diverse genres.

You’ll refine fluency by exploring contemporary issues in greater depth and by working with more demanding spoken and written material.

Our most advanced Spanish module develops near‑native proficiency through sophisticated writing, academic discussion, and the study of Spanish‑language texts.

You’ll also develop advanced skills in translating both into and out of Spanish.
