Background
I am a social scientist interested in experiences of online and offline communities. My academic journey began in the US where I did an undergraduate degree in Middle Eastern Studies and French, with a particular focus on marginalised and stigmatised neighbourhoods. My PhD from the University of Leeds was around media stigmatisation of Toxteth in Liverpool over the 20th century. Since completing my PhD, I have worked as a research fellow and a lecturer. I have taught across a range of social science, sociology and human geography modules ranging from qualitative research methods to classes on place and belonging. My research areas of expertise are around experiences of online and offline communities, especially those that are marginalised or stigmatised. Currently I am involved with a project run out of
