MA Film and Creative Enterprise teaching methods

Participate in small-group seminars, lectures with visiting practitioners, practical workshops, film and theatre trips, self-directed study and one-to-one tutorials. Each module is made up of different teaching methods.

Seminars and lectures

View screenings and analyse films and performances in small-group seminars. Lectures introduce new topics, and many host visiting practitioners.

Film and theatre trips

The University is just a 30 minute train journey to London Paddington. We run regular trips to London for theatre shows, film screenings and film festivals.

Self-directed study

Your final dissertation or film/theatre practical project requires self-directed study and research.

One-to-one tutorials

Your academic tutor will provide one-to-one support throughout your course. A specialist supervisor will help you develop the topic of your final project and support you with the written elements.

Practical workshops

Some modules will be taught via practical workshops, exercises and group supervision of projects. This will be a chance to explore key methodologies and strategies.

Placements

If you select our placement module, you'll either self-organise a placement or analyse an industry, organisation or role of your choice. This allows you to develop your skills and identify your career goals.

MA by Research teaching methods

Choose your specialist film, theatre or television research topic and carry out self-directed study with a dedicated supervisor. You'll also take taught modules, present your work and attend research training sessions with the Doctoral and Researcher College.

Self-directed study

Work closely with a specialist supervisor on a research topic of your choice. This will culminate in a dissertation or practical project.
