Fully express your creativity
Combining film studies with practice
One of the highlights of Tegan's degree was the study of film theory and how it can inform practice to produce better work.
"I have loved learning and understanding the theory side of film and theatre and this has allowed me to critically inform every piece of work I create. We create so many practical pieces over the three years that there is always an opportunity to develop your skills and create work you can be really proud of."
Minghella Studios
All Film, Theatre & Television students are based in Minghella Studios, our £11.4m purpose-built study environment. It is equipped with multifunctional performance spaces and specialist production areas and equipment.
"Minghella Studios is probably the most wonderful part of being a Film, Theatre & Television student at Reading. We are so lucky to have our own bespoke building, filled with resources and equipment that make anything possible."
Exposure to established theatre companies and practitioners
Throughout her degree, Tegan gained first-hand insight from real-world theatre companies and practitioners. These industry professionals share their expertise and knowledge through seminars and workshops, providing a preview of what working in the field is really like.
"This is always an opportunity for us to ask all questions we may have about every aspect of theatre. Being able to discuss various ways of working that have proved effective for others also gives us the chance to understand who we are as practitioners."
Making Meaning
The first-year module, Making Meaning, which all Film, Theatre and Television students study, helped prepare Tegan for the rest of her degree. The module comprises of workshops and small-group practical projects designed to introduce you to the principles of theatre performance and screen-based production.
"There is a freedom of creativity on this module that sets you up for modules in later terms that have more technical demands and are longer in process. This module taught me that every idea I have is possible."
