Mathilde Pavis

Mathilde joined the University of Reading in 2022. She holds a Licence and Maitrise in Law from the University of Rennes (France), an LLM and PhD from the University of Exeter.

Prior to joining Reading Law School, Mathilde was a Senior Lecturer at the University of Exeter and a John W. Kluge Research Fellow at the US Library of Congress in Washington DC. She was visiting scholar at the University of Victoria (Canada, 2018) and at the University of Queensland (Australia, 2019). 

Mathilde is co-director of the UK’s first pro bono digitisation and law clinic for small and less-well-resourced museums, called the GLAM-E Lab. The GLAM-E Lab is a collaboration between the Universities of Reading, Exeter and NYU Law. The Lab funded by the Arts & Humanities Research Council. 

Mathilde teaches a range of module including intellectual property law, contract law and French law. She was also a guest lecturer in Intellectual Property Law at King's College London. 

Mathilde’s research primarily focuses in the areas of intellectual property law (copyright, performers’ rights and trademark), cultural heritage regulation and their respective intersections with new technologies, creativity, performance and disability broadly understood. 

Mathilde received several awards and government funding for her research.

Her recent work has focused on human synthetisation with artificial intelligence and the restitution of digital cultural heritage.
