Areas of interest
Kieran Lee’s interests principally cover all things related to professional regulation, discipline, liability, and employment law. Other interests include commercial, company and corporate law; chancery and private client law; sustainability and environmental law; food and waste law; animal rights and welfare law, and jurisprudence and socio-legal studies. He welcomes LLM or PhD applications covering commercial, company and corporate, private, employment, and professional regulation law.
Alongside solicited work published or forthcoming in number of leading journals or edited works, Kieran Lee is Academic Editor of Jackson & Powell on Professional Liability, a major text forming a part of the prestigious Common Law Library by Sweet & Maxwell, in partnership with 4 New Square, London. He earlier joined the A Dictionary of Law, by Oxford University Press, as Contributing Editor. He is presently preparing a monograph and planning two other long-term projects.
Teaching and supervision
With respect to teaching, Kieran Lee is experienced in four areas, which he has taught or supervised at both undergraduate and postgraduate level:
- the law of property (incorporating land) (Reading, Cambridge, King’s and Durham);
- the law of equity and trusts (Reading, Cambridge, King’s and Durham);
- the law of employment (Reading, Durham and FU Berlin); and,
- LLB and LLM dissertations and projects (Reading) in commercial and private, employment, professional regulation, and negligence law. He has previously acted as a Finishing Supervisor for MJur/PhD (Durham) students in the aforementioned areas.
Kieran Lee previously taught the law of tort (Birkbeck College, University of London) (as a postgraduate teaching assistant) and legal systems and methods (England and Wales and comparative) (Birkbeck and Freie Universität Berlin) (as a postgraduate and, more recently, as a visiting professor).
Kieran Lee is a Lecturer in Law (Assistant Professor in Law) at the School of Law, University of Reading (January 2020-present). Prior to joining the University of Reading, Kieran Lee was a Teaching Fellow in Law at The Dickson Poon School of Law, King’s College London (2017-2019), before which he was a Tutor and Researcher in Law at Durham Law School, University of Durham (2014-2017). Upon joining King’s, he was retained by Durham as a Visiting Lecturer and Researcher in Law (2017-2020). Thereafter, he took up post as College Lecturer and Supervisor in Law (External) at the Faculty of Law, University of Cambridge (October 2019-present), and in 2020/2021 he was invited to serve as Faculty Lecturer and Professor in Law at the Fachbereich Rechtswissenschaft, Freie Universität Berlin (visiting and online), having served as the penultimate Erasmus Lecturer and Professor in Law (2019).
Kieran Lee read natural sciences and psychology and neurosciences as an undergraduate before later converting to law as a postgraduate on scholarship, having entered university on an access course as a mature student. Before becoming a lecturer, Kieran Lee trained and worked in psychology and psychiatry for over a decade, supporting the treatment of patients with complex mental health problems.
