The MA in English Language Education is jointly delivered in Guangzhou, China, by the University of Reading and Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS). Taught in English over 12 months, it is open to both recent graduates and practising primary and secondary school teachers.
This programme will deepen your understanding of issues related to the teaching and learning of English as a foreign language in schools in the People's Republic of China. You will be encouraged to explore the practical applications of the research literature relating to education, English language teaching, and second language acquisition.
As a practicing teacher you'll draw upon your own experience of teaching and/or learning languages. You will acquire an in-depth understanding of the underlying principles of English language education and their application.
This will empower you to develop pedagogical effectiveness, research capability and take leading roles in innovation and reform in English language education within the institutions where you teach.
Admission requirements
As a part of the application process for this programme, you will be required to:
- hold the equivalent of an upper second-class degree (as determined by National Recognition Information Centre in the UK)
- have a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 (or equivalent), with not less than 6.0 for any individual component.
