Email and calendaring: Outlook
Microsoft Outlook is the approved application for email and calendaring at the University of Reading. Outlook is linked into university systems such as the staff and student address books and connects to your university OneDrive online storage space, as well as Teams and other M365 products.
Staff and students have access to Outlook included with their University of Reading Microsoft 365 account. Microsoft 365 puts your email and calendar functionality into the Cloud (Exchange Online). The benefits of this include:
- Access through the Outlook desktop app, mobile app, or Outlook through the web via outlook.office.com
- Integration with Microsoft 365 products, including Teams and OneDrive for Business
- Microsoft managed service with 99.9% uptime
- Standard email storage quota of 50GB (this can be extended to 100GB on request)
We strongly recommend Apple owners also use Outlook. If you are using Apple Mail please make sure your OS and Apple Mail client are always on the latest version, and be aware that additional functionality provided by Microsoft 365 may not be available in Apple Mail.
For those on Linux you should use Outlook on the web, or Thunderbird is approved as a desktop client.
How to log in
Go to outlook.office.com and log in using the format username@reading.ac.uk (example username ab123467 or sgwsww) plus your normal UoR password.
Using your email address to sign in will not work!
Security
Our systems stop thousands of scam emails and other malicious threats every day. However, some still get through so we have a section on our website devoted to staying safe when working and socialising online.
Support and Training
Microsoft has a comprehensive support section on their website which will answer most questions and queries. If not, please use the IT Self Service Portal or call us on 0118 378 6262.
