Teaching assistants can now benefit from two free online courses developed by a leading expert in education from the University of Reading and online social learning platform futurelearn.com.
The two courses are
- Supporting Successful Learning in Primary Schools
- Supporting Successful Learning in Secondary Schools
These courses have been designed by Professor Helen Bilton, who brings 35 years of experience in teacher training and education in collaboration with the University's Online Courses team.
These courses have also received endorsement from The Universities' Council for the Education of Teachers (UCET), and have been ranked as high quality and effective online courses. UCET also recommends those considering a career in teaching to give consideration to completing these courses.
Both courses are designed to help teaching assistants and support workers work with pupils more effectively and to provide insight to those interested in the teaching profession.
Topics include how to manage a classroom and the psychology behind student behaviour. Learners will also hear first-hand from children about how they explore a learning environment.
Both courses will be facilitated by Helen and mentors (all teachers) for three runs a year.
During this time, Helen and the team can answer questions and steer discussions. Those who want a more interactive experience and to partake in discussions live can also do so during these periods.
