For admission from your International Foundation Programme (IFP) onto an undergraduate degree at the University of Reading, you must satisfy certain academic and English language requirements.

Definition of a pass: 40%

Definition of Threshold performance:

  • an overall average of at least 40% over all modules taken in Part 0;
  • no more than 40 credits of these modules with a mark below 35%
  • at least 40% in the Academic Skills module

- An overall average of at least 40% over all credit modules taken in part 0;

- no more than 40 credits of these modules with a mark below 35%

- at least 40% in the Academic Skills

- module and any specified 20 credit subject specific skills module.

School of the Built Environment*

* Additional Accreditation requirements apply to BSc Quantity Surveying in UoRM see OPTION2.

BSc Computer Science

 

Option 2

- at least 55% in each of two 40 credit modules, including any specified modules.

- an average of at least 40% in the remaining two modules

- at least 40% in the Academic Skills module

- no module mark below 35%

School of Chemistry, Food and Pharmacy

School of Mathematical, Physical and Computational Sciences

BSc Quantity Surveying for students at UoRM* there are also additional accreditation requirements

Option 3

- an overall average of at  least 60% over all credit modules taken in part 0;

- at least 60% in two 40 credit modules, including any specified modules;

- no module mark below 40% in the remaining two modules

Default Option for:

School of Law

Henley Business School**

** A successful supplementary application and assessment are also required for BA Accounting and Business (4 years), with acceptance subject to final confirmation by Henley Business School in conjunction with PwC

Specific programmes from Schools with a different default option:

MPharm Pharmacy (with Foundation)***

*** Satisfactory performance at a competencies and values-based interview is also required.

International Foundation Programme students who wish to study MPharm Pharmacy at the University of Reading will be required to make a separate application via UCAS and be successful at interview in addition to these academic requirements.

BSc Pharmacology (with a year in industry) (with Foundation)

OPTION 4

- an overall average of at least 60% over all credit modules taken in part 0;

- at least 70% in one 40 credit module, as specified

- at least 60% in a second 40 credit module, including any specified module

- no module mark below 40% in the remaining two modules

Specific programmes from Schools with a different default option:

MSci Speech and Language Therapy*

Satisfactory performance at a competencies and values-based interview is also required

Language Requirements for Students on the International Foundation Programme

For admission to degree study in the University, students must also satisfy English Language requirements. English Language requirements for admission to University of Reading programmes:

Programme Requirements

MSci Speech and Language Therapy

IELTS 8.0 (with no skill below 7.5)

Degree programmes in Arts, Humanities and Social Science

(except Politics, Economics and International Relations)

IELTS 7.0 or a pass at 60% in IF0IE1

(Equivalent to CEFR C1).

Degree programmes in the Henley Business School Degree programmes in SPPE

Degree programmes in the School of Law Degree programmes in all other Schools

IELTS 6.5 or a pass at 55% in IF0IE1 (equivalent to CEFR B2)

LLB Law with International Foundation Year

55% in International English A (IF0IE1)

In addition to meeting the academic entry requirements for the undergraduate programme, students also need to satisfy the English language requirement. IF0IE1 International English allows students to qualify linguistically but is NOT a qualifying module for academic admission

Students who pass the Programme but do not qualify for admission to any degree programme will be entitled to an International Foundation Programme Certificate.

FAQS

Can I change my chosen degree programme during the foundation year?

Providing you are studying the appropriate subjects, you can request permission to change to an alternative degree programme. It is normal for such requests to be agreed although it is at the discretion of the relevant School or department.
