About us

The Student Welfare Team supports students who are experiencing challenges and difficulties that are non-academic but are having or could have an impact on their studies and student life.

 

Services for students

The Student Welfare team works closely with Academic Tutors and other University support services to provide wellbeing support for any student in need.

They are able to advise and support students on a wide range of personal and wellbeing issues that may impact on their studies and day-to-day life. This could include:

  • Settling in and adjusting to university life
  • Difficulties with flat/housemates
  • Family or relationship issues
  • Harassment and bullying
  • Drug or alcohol issues
  • Being a victim of violence (crime/sexual/domestic)
  • Struggling to manage carer responsibilities
  • Concerns about a friend

In working with students the team look to provide:

  • In the moment emotional and practical support
  • Signposting to relevant internal and external support services
  • Monitoring and supporting students who need more longer term support over the duration of their studies

 

Resources for staff

  • The Wellbeing Service webpages provide important information for students in looking after themselves and staying well at University and the different support and advice services that are best placed to support them.
  • The University have also partnered with Health Assured to offer students a 24/7/365 confidential telephone helpline to support with any personal questions, worries or advice they might need as a student at the University of Reading. Students can call 0800 023 2466 to access the 24hr support helpline.
