The different initiatives that are part of the Outreach and Widening Participation Programme include:
- taster lectures on psychology and language sciences at our Psychology Taster Days, giving students the chance to immerse themselves in the subject for a day and find out what it’s like to learn with us at Reading
- webinars for both home and international undergraduate and postgraduate prospects
- mock interviews at schools, helping potential applicants navigate the University application process
- networking sessions, specifically for applicants from underrepresented backgrounds, to meet our academics at our Access Reading event
- work experience opportunities for students who wish to gain hands-on experience in research or clinical practice
- psychology careers days at sixth form colleges.
We also organise and deliver academic sessions for the University’s flagship Widening Participation Programme, the Reading Scholars Programme, enabling Year 12 students from a variety of different underrepresented and disadvantaged backgrounds to experience University life on campus. These sessions are normally held in February (welcome event), March (academic strand day) and July (four-day residential).
Please get in touch with our Outreach and Widening Participation Lead, Dr Fang Liu, if you are interested in any of the above opportunities.
