Maternity Leave
Maternity leave is available for all pregnant employees in accordance with the University's Maternity Leave Policy
Notification
You must notify your line manager and the HR Adviser for your School or Function of your pregnancy, the date your baby is due and the date on which you intend to commence maternity leave at least 15 weeks before the baby is due. This notification should be in writing. A Maternity Leave Notification Form is available for this purpose. Maternity Leave can commence any time after the 11th week before the expected week of childbirth.
Risk Assessment
A specific New and Expectant Mothers Risk Assessment (MRA1) form must be completed by your Line Manager. There is a Safety Code of Practice: Maternity produced by Health & Safety Services to guide through this process. For advice on completing a risk assessment, contact the Health and Safety Coordinator for your area (found under HSCs List on Things to do now)
Keep in Touch (KIT) Days
To claim payment for KIT Days while you are on maternity leave, please complete the KIT Days form and pass for authorisation by the Head of School or Department.
Returning to work
On your return to work, your Line Manager must carry out a further risk assessment if you have given birth in the last 6 months and/or you are breastfeeding.
Breastfeeding Facilities are available on University campus, facilitated by the Parent and Family Network
