Bullying and Harassment
The University supports its staff and students through different mechanisms, but a single Harassment and Bullying Policy Statement applies across all our employees, students, contractors, casual and agency workers. This useful document gives examples of the types of behaviours that can be considered harassment and bullying, outlines our responsibilities as individuals or managers, and lists the formal procedures that staff and students have recourse to.
Harassment and Bullying procedure
The Harassment and Bullying Procedure gives full detail of what to do if you feel you have been harassed or bullied. It sets out the informal approach as well as the formal procedure that is followed if you wish to make a formal complaint.
There is a link to information about workplace mediation which may be helpful in some circumstances: Mediation.
Report + Support
An online system allowing staff, students and visitors to campus to report sexual harassment, bullying and other incidents to the University.
Report & Support enables anyone who has experienced inappropriate behaviour in our community to notify the University through a simple form so it can be recorded and investigated.
How it works
Victims and witnesses can report details of an incident on the website, which has an option for them to do so anonymously. Anonymous reports cannot be formally investigated by the University but will be logged to allow the University to monitor issues, identify trends and take proactive steps to address them.
Named reports allow a University advisor to make contact and discuss how the incident will be investigated. The advisor will offer support and present options of action that can be taken, which will be agreed with the person who made the report.
Support available
There are many resources and sources of support to help staff who feel that they have been subject to or may have witnessed harassment or bullying, including line managers, HR Partners and Advisers, UCU Trade Union Representatives, and the Staff Forum.
We also have volunteers who form the Harassment Peer Support Network across the University who are ready to offer support and advice. Below are the contact details for each volunteer.

Confidential advice and support is also available through the Employee Assistance Programme.
Reporting and support: students
Students who feel they are being harassed or bullied should report this to the University where internal support is available, as well as support from RUSU and external agencies. More information and how to report an incident via Report & Support can be found separately on our #NeverOK webpage.
